The Weekender – July 4, 2009

Just over 10 years ago, INFO San Miguel was created and went online for the first time.

At that time it was a simple, ‘hobby’ website with a goal of providing news and information of all kinds about San Miguel de Allende online.

In the summer of 1999, the first newsletter was sent out by email to subscribers and was called ‘New and Exciting in San Miguel‘.

Last year, in 2008, the format of INFO San Miguel changed, and the newsletter became ‘The Weekender‘.

Almost from the beginning in 1999, Reggie King, a long-time resident of San Miguel, has provided the editorial expertise. She has gathered ‘the news’ from many sources over the years.

Reggie King, retiring editor of The Weekender of INFO San MiguelToday, our ‘angel’ editor, Reggie King, has made the decision to retire due to ever-increasing health problems that interfere seriously with her abilities to bring us the news.

INFO San Miguel wants to salute Reggie in this news posting for all her efforts, enthusiasm, and wonderful friendship over the last 10 years. She is a very special person… our ‘angel’.

I’m sure you will join me in wishing her peace and happiness… and good health … in all her activities for many remaining years of life.

THANK YOU … Reggie King !

We love you…

Jim Faelker

It would be nice for people planning to visit to know the weather information. Just a brief hi and low for the period would be appreciated.

You will find Weather details in the SMA Wiki at …

I understand that a lot of Americans retire to this area in Mexico. I would like to come down for 6 mo with my daughter for the language school, and to experience a different culture. I have a home here and I wanted to see if there would be anyone who would put us up for room and board for this time in exchange for work. I can paint, do yard work, help someone recovering from surgery, etc. If you think this is possible could you contact me and tell me how to go about it? Thanks Karen

    Karen…
You might want to do some research BEFORE you visit so you know what to expect.
As so many Americans have settled here, it is an EXPENSIVE PLACE to live or visit. So don’t expect bargain prices anywhere in the city.
Mexicans refer to SMA as a perfect example of “Americanization” of a Mexican city. So don’t expect to find the true flavor of Mexico here…it will be more like GRINGO.
