You might want to do some research BEFORE you visit so you know what to expect.
As so many Americans have settled here, it is an EXPENSIVE PLACE to live or visit. So don’t expect bargain prices anywhere in the city.
Mexicans refer to SMA as a perfect example of “Americanization” of a Mexican city. So don’t expect to find the true flavor of Mexico here…it will be more like GRINGO.

I understand that a lot of Americans retire to this area in Mexico. I would like to come down for 6 mo with my daughter for the language school, and to experience a different culture. I have a home here and I wanted to see if there would be anyone who would put us up for room and board for this time in exchange for work. I can paint, do yard work, help someone recovering from surgery, etc. If you think this is possible could you contact me and tell me how to go about it? Thanks Karen
