SMA will have a City Museum of Archaeology, Ethnography, Culture and Art in what was City Hall on the Jardín. The project will take about two years to complete, and will be opened for the bicentennial of Mexico's independence in 2010. Other museum news is that Casa de Allende at Cuña de Allende 1 will be renovated to become a comprehensive museum about Mexican Independence.

Long ago, back in 1970, SMA experienced its first traffic light at the corner of Canal and Hidalgo. It was a hand-held affair with dim red and green lights. The traffic officer holding it rotated it as needed. Since then, it has been used from time to time, but mostly, it is part of the transit museum inside the Presidencia Municipal. December 22 it the Día de El Agente de Transito, and on that date, our antique traffic light appeared at the corner of San Francisco and Juarez. Piles of presents were heaped around the officer holding it, as a thank you for transito officers many services.

Hospice San Miguel is up and running and Billy Goldsmith's illness and death four years ago indirectly led to its establishment. To honor Goldsmith's memory, there is a drive to establish the Billy Goldsmith Patient Assistance Program. The program would help patients and families pay for medications to relieve pain and suffering and to provide
durable medical equipment and supplies as well as a doctor who specializes in palliative medicine. Over US$13,000 has been raised, and Hospice hopes to raise US$20,000. To help, and to get US tax-deductible receipts, make checks out to the San Miguel Community Foundation with Hospice San Miguel, A.C. Billy Goldsmith Patient Assistance Fund on the memo line. In the USA send checks to Hospice San Miguel Goldsmith Fund, Box #218A, 220 North Zapata Hwy, Suite 11A, Laredo, TX 78043 and in SMA, send your check to La Conexión, Box #218A, Aldama 3, San Miguel de Allende.
