Real estate property taxes (predial) are
due, and all real estate owners, urban or rural, must pay them. In a complicated formula, the real property taxes pay for police and traffic officers, public lighting, street repair and trash collection among other necessities. Taxes can be paid every two months, but there is a 15 percent discount when the entire amount due is paid before February 29 this year (usually February 28). Payment can be made in the new administrative building on the Salida a Querétaro, in the old Presidencia building on The Jardín, either Banorte offices, Banco del Bajío on the Salida a Celaya AND the local government website www.sanmiguelallende.gob.mx which has a link to Bancomer so that one can pay by credit card.

The construction of the hotel
Casa de Aves in Puerto de Nieto near Atotonilco has won a Golden Profile Award to SMA architect José Luis González Vázquez. The award is the highest made at the Regional Biennial of Architecture, where architectural works in the states of
Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas are considered. House of Birds (Casa de Aves), built by Gustavo Spínolo and his wife Leticia Serrano, used building materials from the site - foundations of sand and gravel that needed to be excavated for construction, adobe mixed from soil from the edge of the Rio Laja and
roots from reeds growing along the river. González worked with the Spínolo family; daughter Rossana has a master's degree in art and Sra. Leticia Serrano worked on the landscape architecture. The project began when Sr. Spínolo became aware of González's work during an exhibition that took place in Museo Casa de Allende by local architects who are members of the Union of Architects. González is now Vice President of the SMA Union of Architects, teaches architecture at the University of León, and maintains a private practice.
