Bomb scare...

On March 10, the area in front of the former Presidencia on the Jardín was the scene of a bomb scare. Originally reported on 066, the report said there was a strange object in front of the old Presidencia that might be a bomb. Civil Protection department called in the Red Cross and Fire Department and the Army for help. The package was removed to a bucket, and the bucket to a construction rock bank off the Salida a Querétaro. Army specialists in explosives decided to burn rather than try to open the package. The burning brought on no explosion. The residue will be analyzed.

Reduction in crime...

Already, the drive to have citizens report wrong doing quickly seems to have reduced, rather than having an increase in local crime. In addition, the effort by police officials to organize the various gangs into viable soccer teams has taken some of the youthful steam into a better direction than it has taken only recently. Let us hope this good news continues.

SMA is in the grips of the many traditional Catholic observances of the holy days between Friday of our Lady of Sorrows and Easter Sunday. Since schools are on vacation, SMA is full of family groups vacationing, of visiting family members. Along with all of these observances are Juarez's birthday observance and St. Patrick's Day. Friday of our Lady of Sorrows is marked by a unique to SMA tradition when many doors, windows and public fountains are decorated. Many of the statues used in these decorations are cared for through the year also by tradition by certain families.
