CEREKA is a charity that helps handicapped children of SMA.
CEREKA has recently moved to a new house in Colonia San Antonio. The
land was donated and the construction made possible with private help.
The former director has left the organization in the hands of New York
psychologist David Tannenbaum. The group would like to buy a van, to
be able to offer transportation to patients who find it difficult to use
public transportation, also for their rural patients.
Money is needed to enlarge the installations and for a special room for
therapy. Simpler things needed are grass for the back patio, and a
playground with swing and sliding board. Donations are tax
deductible.
CEREKA is currently helping 30 children with cerebral palsy, Down
Syndrome, learning problems and behavior problems. The children are
cared for by the center's psychologist and the massage therapist, using a
method based on the Chinese system of meridians and energy distribution.
CEREKA also offers rehabilitation treatment to adults after surgery, with
spinal column or other injuries. These low-income patients pay a
minimum fee, based on ability to pay.
However, for other adults, massage relaxation therapy, Swiss massage,
lymphatic massage, shiatsu and reflexology are offered for $200 pesos and
up for one-hour treatment.
